Our First “Blog” Post

Okay, so this is our first blog post.  I have decided to bring my firm and my clients, which I have worked so hard to cultivate and grow, into the 21st Century.  What is a blog anyway?  I looked up the definition on the Merriam-Webster online dictionary and it tells me that a blog is:

“an online personal journal with reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer.”

I don’t know how personal or reflective this is going to be, but then again that’s not what the intent is. The purpose of this effort will be to keep my clients, and anyone else who wants to listen, apprised of the wonderful world of law. That is not meant to be sarcastic.  I really think the law is amazing. Open to so many interpretations yet bound by precedent.

Jerry Seinfeld once said that an attorney is someone who reads and knows the rules of life, like the person who reads the bottom of the box of a board game. That’s not a verbatim quote but that’s the gist of it. It’s true. We lawyers are expected to know the rules, or laws, so that we may advise our clients. The beauty of the law is that it is supposed to represent the will of the people, and it often does. Everyone knows how laws are passed, but what happens after that? Many times one finds out the consequences only after that new law is broken.

I wont be providing any criminal advice as that is not my area or expertise. I do hope to provide everyday advice that people can use. There are publications I subscribe to which keep me on the cutting edge of my field and my area of practice. I hope to decipher the legal jargon and give concise, easy to understand stories, scenarios and advice on the law and how it touches all of us. I hope to do so by citing cases reported in my legal journals as well as from discussions with other lawyers, judges, law clerks and paralegals. I also attend numerous seminars throughout the year and hear and see what other attorneys are experiencing with their clients all over the country. I plan on passing that along. Hopefully you will enjoy the product as much as I will enjoy bringing it to you.

Of course, if anything I write about raises a question, feel free to email or call me.
